VILLAGE DE CHANGEFÈGE

Located on the Causse which bears the same name, the village of Changefège is a concentration of Causse villages. Installed on the southern slope, protected from the north winds by the croup of the causse, the village is organized around its sectional bread oven (it is the collective property of all the owners of the village). Right next to it is a "ferradou" (ox shoeing machine). All that remains are the four uprights that supported the straps to relieve the ox while the irons were being put on. This operation allowed the oxen to work in fields where the profusion of stone would have damaged their hooves too much. Several houses have kept their old organization with a main building surmounted, for the richest, by a dovecote. This, accompanied by one or more agricultural buildings. Each house had its cistern, the fountain supplying the village is several tens of meters below. You can discover the fountain To see nearby : * the Dolmen de la Tuile , located above the village. Protected as a Historic Monument since 1887, it is one of the most popular and visited in the department. * above one of the oldest farms, a " lavogne " to water the animals, * the fountain . follow a path starting alongside a house at the bottom of the village. Make a small detour down another small path to the right before the steepest part, you will find a pretty cast iron cross bearing a Virgin in adoration .
