The Rocher de Moïse is a set of dolomitic rocks that let you imagine, from the point of view that you have on it, the profile of a group of people. The rock is now located in the heart of the national forest of Mende, following the reforestation of the perimeters of Mende. The name of the Rocher de Moïse may possibly be linked to the presence of a chapel on the same slope overlooking the Lot and Mende valley: the hermitage of Saint Privat. It is a holy place where tombs dating back to the Merovingian era have been found, and where a chapel, Stations of the Cross, monumental crosses have been erected and caves have been set up as a place of devotion. The first chaplain would have officiated there in the 12th century. Source: DREAL Languedoc-Roussillon, September 2007.
