Le Ranc Rouge

PR N°21 of the Heart of Lozère. This circuit, starting from the Villaret de Barjac bridge, will take you up along the Lot on its left bank before climbing on a spur of the Causse de Sauveterre dominated by the "Red Ranc". This deformation of the Occitan word "ronc" means "rock": here, the limestone is tinted reddish by iron oxides. From this high point, the view embraces the Lot valley and the Margeride. Along the way, the fountain of Saint-Véran evokes the first location of the village of Barjac. Sporty hike with a good climb and, as a reward, a superb panorama over the Lot valley and the Margeride.
