The Lot originates at an altitude of 1200 m on the southern slope of the Goulet mountain. Stretching over approximately 95 km in its crossing of Lozère, it successively crosses elements of the three main rocks of the department: schist, granite and limestone. It is in particular by penetrating into the karstic lands that the Lot will offer the fario trout the possibility of faster growth. A population of grayling, introduced a few years ago, is present in the vicinity of Chanac. Barbel but also chub, dace and sieges mingle there, in significant quantities and whose presence is indisputably penalizing for salmonids. In its crossing of the Lozère, the Lot is fully classified in the 1st category.
