The town hall is a former private mansion built in 1774 for the Moré de Charaix family, a very important family of mendois notables. We owe them in particular the frescoes in the Salle des Vertus at the Musée du Gévaudan. This building, with its classical composition, is distinguished by its impressive roofing in shale slate characteristic of the region. Inside, the original ramp staircase has been retained. The interior of this residence forms a beautiful architectural element with its carved hanging keystones and its wrought iron handrail. It has been the town hall since 1851. During guided tours, you will discover on the first floor, in the marriage room, very beautiful Aubusson tapestries from the 17th century illustrating the biblical episode of Judith and General Holofernes. Attention: Although the entrance hall of the town hall is accessible to the public, the rest of the rooms can only be visited during scheduled or reserved guided tours.
