The estate has existed since at least the 13th century. It seems that it was a member of a family linked to the cathedral chapter who had the current ensemble built around 1661 (this date appears on the lintel of the door). Although the west wing was rebuilt following a fire, the residence presents a homogeneous dwelling characteristic of the 17th century: a round tower, topped with a flattened pepperbox roof above a crown of machicolation, flanks a main building whose floors are underlined by a flat band. On the front door is the arms of the builder. The castle rises in the middle of pastures, on the edge of a very old road which, through the causse of Sauveterre, connects the valleys of the Tarn and the Lot but also Chanac to Florac. It assured the control of this major axis between Languedoc and Auvergne. The fortified farm of Choizal was listed in the inventory of historical monuments in 2004. DO NOT VISIT . The interior is private, however you can see this imposing residence from the road. click to find all the castles of the Country of art and history
