An essential stop on the way to Santiago de Compostela, the village of Nasbinals is located on the Aubrac plateau (1180m above sea level). The Sainte-Marie church, in the Auvergne Romanesque style, is well worth a stop to visit. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, it was remodeled during the 14th century without losing its original style. The Sainte-Marie church, in the Auvergne Romanesque style, is well worth a stop to visit. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, it was remodeled during the 14th century without losing its original style. " Romanesque church in the shape of a Latin cross, the plan of which consists of a nave, a semicircular apse, a projecting transept with two apsidioles, two groin-vaulted chapels forming a north aisle. The semicircular apse is vaulted in a cul-de-four. The transept crossing is vaulted with a dome on a squinch; engaged Romanesque columns support the four semicircular arches of the transept square. The portal is decorated with semicircular voussoirs. An octagonal bell tower rises on the transept crossing and ends with a spire. In 1074, the church was given to the Saint-Victor abbey and then the Aubrac dômerie included it in its domains ." Information from the Mérimée database . Among the church's furnishings, two elements stand out: a polychrome wooden Christ on the cross (17th century) and a gilded wooden altarpiece (17th century). Listed as a Historic Monument in 1921. Open to the public all year round, free admission.
