COLLEGIALE DE BÉDOUES

Pope Urban V was born in 1310 in the Château de Grizac (municipality of Pont de Montvert). He decided, by a papal bull, in 1363, to build the Collegiate Church of Bédouès to house the remains of the Grimoard family, his parents. The collegiate church was built in schist, following the shape of a Latin cross. Following the destruction of the wars of religion in 1580, it was rebuilt with smaller dimensions, and a shape of a Greek cross. The whole was divided into two very distinct parts, the church, dedicated to the Virgin, and above the house of the canons.
