Castles and defences in Chanac

The territory on which the castle of Ressouches is located was already under the domination of the bishops of Mende in the 13th century. We know that a "manse", property of the bishops, was located in Ressouches at that time. It is likely that it is in consolidation of this fortified house that the current castle was built in the 16th century. In the middle of the 17th century, the castle became the property of Antoine de Buisson, who then carried out major repairs, and took the opportunity to rebuild the adjoining farm. The chapel also dates from the 17th century. In this chapel are the arms of the Pont de Ligonnès family, long owners of the castle. One of the most illustrious members of this family was Charles du Pont de Ligonnès, bishop of Rodez and Vabres. In the 19th century the farm was enlarged, notably with the addition of stables adjoining the chapel. DO NOT VISIT. The gardens can be visited during Heritage Days (3rd weekend in September) or during Garden Days (in June). They keep bi-centennial trees. click to find all the castles of the Country of art and history
