"Grizac was erected as a marquisate in the 14th century. In 1309 Guillaume de Grimoard was born there, who became pope in 1362 under the name of Urban V. He spent part of his childhood there. Most of the medieval construction had to be built around the middle of the 14th century and probably enlarged in the 15th. The building was abandoned at the end of the 15th century. From the 17th to the 19th century, major transformations were carried out and, in the 19th century, the estate was transformed into a farm and into a municipal school. The main mass of the building is rectangular in plan and presents: the remains of a watchtower; 1 central body partly collapsed; 1 massif converted into a dwelling to the east; 1 terrace and remains of constructions to the south; 1 large farmyard to the north, bounded by small recent agricultural buildings; 1 barn with 2 levels to the west and another to the east. Around this complex, vestiges of defensive devices could be recognized ". Information from the Mérimée database Currently, the owner of the castle is the Marquis de Laubespin, he has restored the old ruins and has brought new life to the beautiful residence that can be admired today. The castle can be visited in summer. An exhibition is dedicated to the pope. The hamlet can be visited all year round.
