The medieval castle of Canilhac is located in the Lot Valley, in the commune of Canilhac in Lozère. Of the castle, only ruins remain, which bear witness to a rich and ancient history. Belonging to the barons of Canilhac, the castle dates from the 12th century when Gévaudan depended on the kingdom of Aragon. It was the seat of the oldest barony of the viscounty of Gévaudan. Today, you can see the restored keep built in " opus spicatum " or fishbone. In the current church, the former chapel of the castle, there is the sculpted emblem of the Canilhac coat of arms: a trained greyhound . The lower room has been consolidated and now houses the town hall. The castle has been registered in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage since 2011.
