"Javols, was known in antiquity under the name of Anderitum, Gallo-Roman capital of the Gabales. It is one of the rare capitals of ancient cities to have escaped urbanization. Javols indeed remains a very rare case capital of a city that has survived as a village, without undergoing major modifications. Temples, baths, streets and a circular square have been identified.
